A New Year of Great Books

Happy New Year! Here's to 2008 and another year of great reading!

Do you have a YA book that will be out in 2008? Or is there one you are looking forward to? Let's hear it! Give us the title, the pub date, and to make it fun (and challenging!) a ONE liner to describe it.

Thanks for helping to get the word out about all these books!

Mine is PROM KINGS AND DRAMA QUEENS (February 26; HarperTeen). Caught between her crush and her conscience, Emily Bennet learns that freedom of the press might not include the freedom to press her lips against those of hottie-next-door Brian Harrington.

I'm not positive of my pub date yet but my next novel, JUMPING OFF SWINGS, might make it out in 2008. It's about four teenagers and how their lives change in unexpected ways when one of them finds out she's pregnant.

I also just read an amazing book by Laura Weiss called LEFTOVERS. I think it had a Jan 1 pub date.

Can't wait to read all the great sounding books on this list!

Dear YA Writers Cafe,
Livy Two turns 13 in JESSIE'S MOUNTAIN...I don't know if that counts as YA, but at any rate, JESSIE'S MOUNTAIN will be published Valentine's Day, 2008, wrapping up (for now) the Smoky Mountain Trilogy.

Happy New Year!

You already know about the Class of 2K8 (woo!)

Mine's for 10 and up, so the YA reader is fair game.

The Magic Thief by Sarah Prineas, from HarperCollins Children's on June 1st. It's a fantasy, the first in a trilogy, about a scruffy kid with a dark past who picks a wizard's pocket and embarks on an adventure involving magic, henchmen, biscuits and bacon, evil Devices, and crossing a (mostly) frozen river on a night of stars as bright as daggers.

Thanks for asking!!

One sentence... :)

Okay, here's one of the 14 2K8 YA books...BEWITCHING SEASON (April, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers): While making their debuts in 1837 London, a pair of twin witches rescue their governess and the soon-to-be Queen Victoria from a dastardly plot...when they're not looking for Lord Right.

I'm also a member of the Class of 2k8, and my first YA, La Petite Four, will be out in July 2008 from Penguin Razorbill. In 1815, Lady Emily Southwell and her three dearest friends plan to take London by storm until they run afoul of a dashing young lord who may have more up his sleeve than a nicely muscled arm.

Thanks for asking! Here's to a great 2008!

Thanks for asking! I'm also a Class of 2k8 author. My book, Shift, will be published May 20 from Atheneum Books for Young Readers. The novel deals with the fallout after Chris returns from a cross-country bike trip without his former best friend and riding partner Win.

There's SO many great books! I have an anthology out on 5/5 called Breaking Up is Hard To Do with Ellen Hopkins, Lynda Sandoval and Niki Burnham. It's an ecclectic group of stories about break ups right before senior year. And then my debut book, Sleepless, comes out in August with HarperTeen. It's about a teen psyhic who's stalked in her sleep, if she dies in her dreams she dies for real.

My debut novel, SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT, is due out in February from Amulet Books. It's about a girl who sets her hair on fire in chemistry class and then starts a secret blog, which gets posted throughout her school and reveals her friends' secrets and her own.

Thanks for putting this together--what a great list!

I'll chime in as another Class of 2k8 Member. My debut YA, A CURSE DARK AS GOLD comes out in March from Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic. It's a retelling of "Rumpelstiltskin" set in a haunted woolen mill during the Industrial Revolution.

I'm so late to this party, you'll probably never see it, but here goes:

On January 8, my second YA book published by S&S. SECRETS OF MY SUBURBAN LIFE is about a girl whose novelist mother gets crushed to death by a stack of Harry Potter books, after which the girl becomes involved in a sort-of mystery involving an online predator.

Then, on March 25, my first tween book pubs, also from S&S. ME, IN BETWEEN is about a 12-year-old girl with spectacular breasts who feels conflicted over her assets.

Thank you for this opportunity!
